Other Initiatives
Other than the three main Prerna Centres run by IASOWA, the Association takes pride in coming to the aid of the needy and giving help as and when circumstances demand.
One such venture under the IASOWA aegis is “Aanchal”, a government run school for the visually impaired. Volunteers of the Association spend time with the students of this school through the year, and during Diwali, help the inmates in making, as well as in the sale, of candles. The Association takes pride in organising exhibitions for the products made by Aanchal students and clubbing these exhibitions along with IASOWA functions.
The Students of Prerna School also participate in the functions organised by Aanchal School, so as to give them a sense of belonging and togetherness.
During the time of the Covid -19 pandemic, the Association actively assisted many organisations and institutions that were struggling to cope financially or otherwise. During this trying time IASOWA was also involved with giving aid to many individuals that came to it for help.
The Association is extremely happy to report that even during Covid -19, its members, under the able guidance of Mrs. Pammi Gauba, the President, were able to carry out their duties as responsible citizens. The following acts of altruism need special mention ~
- Providing two ventilators to RML Hospital during the time when Covid was at its peak.
- Providing baby food to 70 children of less than one year of age. This baby food was distributed in Andrewsgunj, a slum cluster, and was enough to cater to their basic food needs for two months.
- Providing 11 foetal Doppler machines and 12 Oximeters to the Gynaecology Department of Lady Harding Medical College to help the doctors carry out their duties, wearing the PPE kits, more efficiently.
- Providing “The Earth Saviours Foundation”, an Institution for destitute children and the aged, with one water cooler, one air cooler and a month’s ration including rice, pulses, spices, oil, sugar and atta.
- Donating a sum of ₹50,000 to Anchal, the school of the visually impaired, that IASOWA supports in all its endeavours.
- Selling face masks, made by the inmates of Prerna Stitching Center, at very nominal prices.
- Conducting online computer classes for our senior IASOWA members that fulfilled a need and their desire to become tech savvy. Needless to mention, they were a marvelous success.
